Garden Tractor

By definition a garden tractor is a riding vehicle that can perform routine lawn and garden maintenance and also perform a variety of other tasks. These other tasks include leave collection and bagging during the fall season and snow removal in the wintertime. Also, the tractor must be capable of pulling a trailer behind.

Standard garden tractors are utilized to perform farming tasks. The power ranges for these pieces of equipment range from 10 to 30 horsepower that is tapped into for towing and maintenance work. Among the more routine tasks of a garden tractor are tilling farms, cutting the lawn, removing weed beds and pulling heavy loads far distances. All of this production work by one machine greatly reduces the amount of time and energy a farmer would expel on a given day out on the farm.

The Western Malleable and Gary Iron Manufacturing Company is the founder behind this lawn and garden equipment giant. The first garden tractor rolled off the production line in 1937. It was promptly sold by the Montgomery Wards company. This initial tractor did not have ride on capabilities. That came with a model that rolled off the assembly line two years later in 1939.

Although popular, this 1939 model did not having lawn mowing capabilities. It was not until the 1950’s that the garden tractor obtained the ability to mow lawns. The main attractiveness of this piece of equipment was the ability to perform the heavy duty tasks of large farm equipment in half the size.

Other attractive attributes of garden tractors include cultivators, ploughs, front blades, sickle bar mowers, snow blowers, disc harrows and scythes. This is only the beginning of a long list of features and attributes that are making the garden tractors appear on more and more lawns each year.

As attractive as its list of features is the list of tasks that a garden tractor can perform. The standard task is mowing lawns. In addition to mowing lawns, the tractor can also mow hayfields giving farmers the ability to complete a variety of tasks with only one machine. Another attractive task of the garden tractor is cultivating farms. This tractor is excellent at completing tilling tasks that aid in making farm land more fertile.

Outside of lawn and garden maintenance, garden tractors are effective in pulling heavy loads and wintertime snow removal. Various sized weighted materials can be transported with ease. This includes a variety of lawn and garden maintenance materials such as fertilizer, fodder, wood, concrete and blocks.

In terms of snow removal, garden tractors utilize a front loaded spoon shape object to scoop up snow in the path. The attachments for the blade take the scooped up snow and discard it out of the desired pathway. This feature can also be used to remove dirt, gravel, rocks or other desired materials.

With all of these features and functions, a garden tractor purchase is a sound financial investment. Maintain the value of this investment with a regular maintenance and overall equipment care regiment. This works to prolong the life of a garden tractor
